چکیده

Observations of the H66α recombination line from the ionized gas in the cluster of newly formed massive stars, G10.6–0.4, show that most of the continuum emission derives from the dense gas in an ionized accretion flow that forms an ionized disk or torus around a group of stars in the center of the cluster. The inward motion observed in the accretion flow suggests that despite the equivalent luminosity and ionizing radiation of several O stars, neither radiation pressure nor thermal pressure has reversed the accretion flow. The observations indicate why the radiation pressure of the stars and the thermal pressure of the HII region are not effective in reversing the accretion flow. The observed rate of the accretion flow, 10 M⊙ yr , is sufficient to form massive stars within the time scale imposed by their short main sequence lifetimes. A simple model of disk accretion relates quenched HII regions, trapped hypercompact HII regions, and photo-evaporating disks in an evolutionary sequence Subject headings: accretion, accretion disks – HII regions –stars individual (G10.6–0.4)

Formation and pre–MS evolution of massive stars with growing accretion

We briefly describe the three existing scenarios for forming massive stars and emphasize that the arguments often used to reject the accretion scenario for massive stars are misleading. It is usually not accounted for the fact that the turbulent pressure associated to large turbulent velocities in clouds necessarily imply relatively high accretion rates for massive stars. We show the basic diff...

High resolution magnetic field measurements in high-mass star-forming regions

A number of different formation scenarios have been proposed to explain the formation of stars with masses larger than about 8 M⊙. These include formation through the merger of less massive stars (Coalescence model) or through the accretion of unbound gas from the molecular cloud (Competitive accretion model). In the third scenario, Core accretion model, massive stars form through gravitational...

The Formation of Massive Stars by Accretion through Trapped Hypercompact HII Regions

The formation of massive stars may take place at relatively low accretion rates over a long period of time if the accretion can continue past the onset of core hydrogen ignition. The accretion may continue despite the formation of an ionized HII region around the star if the HII region is small enough that the gravitational attraction of the star dominates the thermal pressure of the HII region...

The Formation of Massive Stars from Turbulent Cores

Observations indicate that massive stars in the Galaxy form in regions of very high surface density, Σ ∼ 1 g cm−2. Clusters containing massive stars and globular clusters have a column density comparable to this. The gas pressure in clouds of such a column density is P/k ∼ 108 − 109 K cm−3, far greater than that in the diffuse interstellar medium or the average in giant molecular clouds. Observ...

Effect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars

Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...
